Martin Hunter was for 27 years a partner at Freshfields. On retiring from the firm in 1994, he re-qualified as a barrister and joined Essex Court Chambers, where he continues to practise actively in the field of international arbitration and investment arbitration.
Prof. Hunter is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Chartered Arbitrator. He has served as counsel or arbitrator in cases held under the rules of most of the world’s best-known arbitral institutions and organisations including the AAA, CAS/TAS, CDP, CIETAC, ICC, ICDR, JCAA, LCIA, LMAA, NAFTA, NAI, SCC and SIAC, as well as arbitrations held under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and other forms of ad hoc arbitration.
Prof. Hunter is the author or co-author of several notable books in the field of international arbitration, including Redfern & Hunter on International Arbitration (OUP), currently in its 5th edition. Prof. Hunter is an active committee member, representative and editorial board member of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA).
