Organizes a Dinner Ceremony for
“Enforcing Commercial Arbitration”
Attended by the Representative of the Minister of Justice,
On Monday, the 30th of April, 2007, Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) organised a business dinner at Park Hyatt Hotel ─ Dubai. The event was attended by his Excellency Dr. Mohammad Al Kamali, Director General of the Judicial Institute – Abu Dhabi, deputizing for His Excellency Mohammad Bin Nakheerah Al Dhaheri, UAE Minister of Justice; His Highness Prince Dr. Bandar Bin Salman Al Saoud, advisor for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; his Excellency Ahmad bin Hazeem, Director General of Dubai Courts; members of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA); members of the DIAC Board of Trustees; as well as a wide array of honourable justices from various courts of the UAE.
DIAC organized this dinner to honor the visit of the ICCA to the United Arab Emirates for the first time to hold their council meeting on May 1st, 2007; which is hosted by DIAC. This dinner followed a seminar organized jointly by DIAC & ICCA entitled:
“The International Effect of Commercial Arbitration".

DIAC main aim of this dinner to shorten the gab between juridical courts and arbitration centers, and establish a good network between judges from various UAE courts and top arbitrators from different parts of the worlds. And to encourage important developments related to the different aspects of international recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards as well as exchanging views.
Furthermore, the ceremony offered a window of opportunity for UAE arbitration professionals to meet with their counterparts from around the world, sharing their views pursuant to arbitration and settlement of disputes, in addition to acquainting themselves with court practices from different corners of the world and the latest trends in commercial arbitration and methods of implementing international arbitration awards.
Appreciating the interaction of UAE judicial system with the latest international trends in the field of settling international commercial disputes, the guests underlined the UAE and competent authorities’ keenness to push the wheel of economy via demonstrating their awareness of the significance of settling commercial disputes and interaction between judges and arbitration.
Inaugurating the ceremony, Dr Hussam Al Talhuni, DIAC director, welcomed the audience, emphasising on the importance of communicating and sharing expertise with world bodies specialising in international commercial arbitration. He pointed out that the DIAC-ICCA organised symposium, conducted on early Monday, the 30th of April 2007, about the international effect of arbitration awards, highlighted the role played by international agreements in underscoring the efficacy of arbitration awards in world trade as well as the role played by local arbitration centres and courst thereupon.
Dr Al Talhuni, presented a report about the pre-ceremony meeting which comprised a galaxy of their Excellencies the judges and heads of courts in Dubai, together with an array of DIAC guests; the participants discussed the role of judges in working for the enforcement of commercial arbitration.
Afterwards, his Highness Prince Dr Bandar Bin Salman Al Saood and his Excellency Dr Mohammad Al Kamali delivered their keynote speeches of the dinner ceremony. Addressing the attendees, Messers Jerald Herman, president of ICCA, and Martin Hunter, chairman of the DIAC Board of Trustees, extended their gratitude for organising this event and the large attendance and they asserted their continued support of the efforts exerted by the DIAC as regards enforcing arbitration in Dubai, the region and the world.
Following that, the dinner buffet was opened and the guests enjoyed the good hospitality. They also split into friendly circles talking and sharing views and information.
